Getting Started: Campus Partners
We are pleased you are interested in partnering with Campus Compact to encourage students to serve their communities.
The Students in Service (SIS) program can support a variety of engagement efforts, including:
- Most volunteer work, including tutoring, mentoring, stream restoration, volunteer recruitment, and more!
- Campus-based volunteer programs and general community service;
- Academic and co-curricular Service-Learning;
- Federal/State Work Study-funded Community Service positions (the only eligible paid positions);
- Students teaching at Title 1 funded schools or student teaching in Special Education, ESL/Bilingual education, or in Math or Science Education;
- Non-paid, academic internships with a service focus;
- Practicum hours, such as nursing, counseling, environmental field work, and more!

Why would a campus want to take part in SIS?
Kinds of campus service programs SIS will support
One program goal is to engage to as many students as possible in serving their community. To that end, Campus Compact staff will work with you to identify the level of support you would like for your campus. If your campus is not yet a member of Campus Compact, the first step is to work with you, and your institution’s President, to enroll as a member of your state's Campus Compact.
The Students in Service program is designed to operate using a train-the-trainer model. We understand campuses have varying resources to promote this program; however, we provide a framework that can be tailored to meet your campus’s individual needs.
Your state Campus Compact will provide you, the Campus Partner (CP), with marketing ideas and materials to support recruitment efforts on your campus. Your state Campus Compact will train you and any additional staff you identify to coordinate SIS locally and to facilitate In-Person Program Orientations. We will give you a “script” for the orientation and a user-friendly website to ensure consistent and complete information is provided to potential members.

Students interested in the program must first complete the Online Pre-Service Overview by going to www.studentsinservice.org. After completing the Online Pre-Service Overview, students attend the In-Person Program Orientation. Because the In-Person Program Orientation is required, all students must attend a session to receive training about the SIS program and receive program enrollment and time log forms.
Once students are oriented and enrolled into the program, they begin their service, accumulate hours, and earn a scholarship (educational voucher)!
If your institution is currently a member of Campus Compact and would like to work with the Students in Service program on your campus, please contact your state Campus Compact for more information.
If your campus is not currently a member of Campus Compact but is interested in the Students in Service program, the first step is to join your state Campus Compact. Please visit your respective state Campus Compact website for more information.
